The perfect crime is to start a band, record an absolute all time banger, then disappear like Kyser Soze.
Listened to this maybe 50 times over a couple of weeks. Short and pretty dang sweet.
Reminds me of Dawn of Midi which makes it close to an all-timer right outta the box. I like a lot of GGP... releases but only after a spell. This went from 0 to loved really quickly for me. show more
"Good but not right now..."
Something I'm learning with this exercise is that music is as much about the mood you're in as it... is objective quality. I hadn't really given Hendricks a shot. Weird since I started as guitarist but I think the over
opening of Purple Haze turned me off to the whole endeavor which is foolish. I listenes to all of this, and I found my head bobbing along to most of the playtime. It's still a pretty transformative work! So I mentally earmarked it to return to, "this is great, why do I listen to this more?" And I realized that I'm just not in a mood all that often that jives with this type of work. Maybe that means I'm too uptight? But it's really interesting to find good music that's accessible and yet still a bit of a mismatch for where I am. Good but not right now.

It's a wicked shame that hating The Eagles as become more of a cliche than the Eagles themselves, because, on their merits alone,... they're pretty wonderful. My rating isn't objective though. It probably isn't a 5 star album, but my parents didn't listen to (much) secular music and yet they played this all the time. Man I loved this thing. Shaped my taste in art in a lot of ways.

Yep yep have the vinyl can confirm it's great
Some days #1001albums makes me dig to figure out what makes it special. Other days... it's obvious. Not just fun to listen to but play, too. It's physically impossible to hear Just What I Needed and not air guitar along. show more
Wasn't expecting the Sweet Dreams song to warrant a full album's worth of inspection. It's pretty good! GPT and Wikipedia tells me why... this album is important and that's great context but, even absent that, I'd say it's an very danceable, pretty pleasant album. I don't know how much I'll revisit, but I enjoyed the once-through nevertheless.

"Poor man wanna be rich / Rich man wanna be king.
And a king ain't satisfied 'til he rules everything."
If that doesn’t just sum... it up.
I’ve got maybe 5 or 6 Bruce songs I know and love (I've always been more of a Zevon guy*). None of these hit that level for me, but they’re all, y’know… good. They’re Bruce.

*That said, Springsteen’s cover of Zevon’s "My Ride’s Here" might be the best either of them ever sounded.
