Piedra fundamental de mi adolescencia. 🤘
There are two ways to tango: you are either team Pichuco or team Piazzolla. My grandfather always claimed Piazzolla killed tango. For him,... tango was for dancing, and Troilo was king.
He gifted me his old record player along with a stack of vinyl, and this album was in the collection. This one is special on vinyl. Grela's guitar in particular has its own distinct space; it's not just a flattened background harmony that gets lost in digital versions. Grela and Troilo are both at the very front of the song. It’s sad that this was changed for the digital version.
As I was studying guitar at the time, this one caught my ear right away and became my entry point to tango. The way Grela's guitar and Troilo's bandoneon play and talk to each other is the real magic here. It's an intimate, melancholic conversation between two masters of another time. show more

I share the words of Félix Grande from his album presentation, found inside the album sleeve:
"Era música... mágica, consoladora y, al mismo tiempo irreparable ... entramos con un alma; al salir tenemos otra alma, más compasiva, bondadosa y fuerte"
"Magic music, comforting and at the same time unyielding ... we enter Paco de Lucia's music with one facet of our souls exposed, we emerge with another; more compasionate, kinder and stronger" show more
Fantastic Negrito is a masterful storyteller. Don’t Be Dead isn’t just a collection of songs, it’s a cohesive narrative that hits harder when... experienced as a whole. Each track stands on its own, but together, they paint a much bigger picture, one that feels deeply personal yet universally resonant.
His stories come from a raw, honest place, reflecting his own journey while tapping into emotions and struggles we can all relate to. This album is a masterpiece, not just for its musicianship (self written and produced) but for the way it invites you into his world.
I had the chance to see him live, and his presence was electrifying. I bought the vinyl that night, got it signed, and left feeling like I had just witnessed something truly special. After the show, he took the time to greet everyone, talking with anyone who approached him. That show took place at La Trastienda, an iconic venue in Montevideo that sadly closed its doors last week. show more
