Listening to this compulsively since it's drop last month. What struck me most was how cohesive of a package it was - the music fit the album cover which fit the videos which fit the release plan, etc. You don't see that kind of singular artistic vision outside of a few auteurs, most launches are either the product of a team of dead-eyed PR professionals or unceremoniously dropped on Spotify. In an age of inauthenticity, the authentic turns heads (and then is quickly chewed up and recommoditized but that's a fight for another day). Foxing's self-titled album stood out, even before I read the band's statement on the album. The TLDR of what they said: they did everything. The recording, production, art, videos, and even the launch. They wanted this as a snapshot to capture where they were at in their craft _today_. You just don't see that too often which is what makes this a notable album for me. Their statement also says "it's not the easiest record to listen to" which is true, there's a couple of especially prickly tracks I skip, but it's not because they're bad, just, y'know, prickly. Everything is in it's place and exactly how you'd expect it to be, warts and all.

@brodieconley nearer my god regularly breaks my heart. whole album is good but there's some lines in the title track, "unfollowing my dead friends" woof. Great fking band.
Been absolutely loving this album. Foxing's trajectory in general has been incredible to follow along and be a fan of. You nailed it, in that it's not just the music, it's an entire worldbuilding art project. I also still go back and listen to Nearer My God a lot -- amazing album, front to back. The production (Chris Walla did it) is impeccable, and the songs rule. Their tiny desk is one of the most underrated imo - it rips!
