joe: najoom - نجوم by nabeel - نبيل

When bro tries to go niche for niche with me, but he's not as tapped into Iraqi shoegaze as I am. This is one of the best sounding shoegaze projects I've heard in a while, it brings a tenderness to the genre which is absent from some contemporaries. Especially being sung in Arabic, it leans into the philosophy explored by My Bloody Valentine in the early days of using the voice as an instrument, a mere thread in the blanket of sound. Najoom is an interesting exploration of diaspora, blending Western Indie rock with Arab lyrics. Not knowing what is being said only adds to the mystery.
