In 2018 we had a devastating loss in our family. Besides family and friends, this album helped me in a way I never expected. My favorite album of 2018, this is Mike Shinoda’s Post Traumatic. I really wasn’t a Linkin Park fan, but I knew this album was him dealing with the loss of Chester Bennington and so I gave it a listen. Next thing I knew I had to pull over driving because I was emotionally wrecked. Post Traumatic is a deeply personal and cathartic exploration of grief. Shinoda blends hip-hop, alternative rock, and electronic elements to craft a sound that’s reflective of his previous work, but the lyrics are what stand out, offering listeners a direct window into his emotional state during a dark chapter in his life. This album would resonate with anyone who has suffered a terrible, perhaps unexpected loss. My collection includes the Limited Edition reissue of the 2018 deluxe edition album pressed on orange vinyl.
