Catching up on DJ Shadow's latest album from last year. I liked the more synth-heavy (rather than sample-based) approach he started exploring on 2016's The Mountain Will Fall, but since then his productions have lacked the subtlety and depth of previous work. This record sounds like a lot of other bedroom hip-hop out there. With each release, it seems less likely he'll ever match the brilliance of his landmark debut LP Endtroducing.....
